EPIC in the media

At EPIC we are often talked about in the news, and so are our robotic members of the team.

We have collated our top articles in one place for you to read about eHealth innovations, their applications and possible futures – as well as project updates.

If you see anything interesting that isn’t listed, please feel free to send this to us at epic@plymouth.ac.uk.

eHealth robot featured on the BBC

You may have seen University of Plymouth’s Hannah Bradwell talking about companion animal robots on BBC Spotlight news.

The story demonstrated how EPIC is using research insight to support local companies but also reflected the journey some care providers are taking by collaborating with the project.

Eventide, an ‘o0utstanding’ care home in Liskeard, who were featured in the story, are committed to innovation to enhance care, but were openly cautious about the potential impact of technology; in particular they were concerned over the reduction of personal contact, which they feel is critical for high quality care.

However, by engaging in the project; contributing to EPIC workshops, attending our conference and hosting technology showcases these concerns have been eased. The team now recognise how technology could enhance their already high level of care.

Jennifer Nancarrow-Allen, manager of Eventide “Being involved with EPIC has certainly been an experience - our residents absolutely love interacting with the robotic pets!

We have attended some great events and met some interesting people that have opened our eyes to the potential beneficial impact of eHealth”.

Working with EPIC, Eventide are actively looking to adopt further technology enhancements to support their care for residents and working with their staff to increase their skills and confidence when using eHealth technology.
