Biography

Biography

I have 25 years experience of supporting children, young people and their families. I have worked across a broad age range, specialising in Early Childhood and using that knowledge to underpin my work within the higher and further education sectors. I have held leadership, management, consultancy and inspection roles (private education, third sector organisations and on behalf of the Department of Education, Uk). Most recently I coordinated the delivery of a newly recommissioned county wide young carers service which has motivated my area of research focus.
My research interests lie within the fields of Psychology, Early Childhood studies and family science.
My research focus will provide a voice to young carers in early childhood, an underrepresented group within literature,  utilising qualitative methodologies.

Research interests

Drawing upon my background as an early year’s professional, whilst managing a young carers county wide service, I was struck by the marginalisation faced by our youngest carers and their families, both in policy and practice. Drawing upon storytelling as a paradigm of enquiry, this research programme will provide a polyvocal (Samaras & Pithouse-Morgan, 2020) investigation of young carers in early childhood. Four strands of the programme serve to triangulate an evidence base on which the young carers community and wider education and health and social care sectors can draw from. The outcomes aim to influence change in policy and practice to recognise and include young carers in early childhood consistently in all related strategy.
