Nika Shilobod

Biography

Nika is a current PhD student at Plymouth in Physical Geography. She started in October 2017 where she is working on the ‘Reconstructing the Wildscape’ project. Her project focuses on the marriage of archaeological and palaeoecological data to examine relationships between past communities and changes within their environment using pollen analysis, GIS, and other geoarchaeological techniques. She is being supervised by Dr Nicki Whitehouse, Dr Ben Gearey and Professor Ralph Fyfe.

Qualifications

Nika received her MSc in Archaeology of the North in 2014 at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Her dissertation was titled: 'Archaeoentomological Analysis of Activity Areas in Viking Age Iceland at Vatnsfjörður'.

After receiving her masters, she worked in aerial imaging, geomatics, and zooarchaeology in the United States until entering into the PhD programme.
