Biography

Biography

Dr Xiaoxiong Xie is a lecturer in the Built Environment discipline of the School of Art, Design and Architecture at the University of Plymouth. His research explores the dynamic interactions between indoor and outdoor environments, focusing on how local-scale outdoor climates and buildings mutually influence each other. In the context of global warming and increasingly frequent and intense heat events, he uses multi-scale modelling, integrating building energy simulation with urban climate models, to understand how cities and buildings adapt to the changing climate. His work addresses the potential health impacts on city dwellers and informs strategies related to climate adaptation and healthy and energy-efficient building design within urban settings. Additionally, his research includes the adaptation of climate-adapting technologies such as air source heat pumps. He received his PhD from the School of the Built Environment at the University of Reading, the MSc in Architectural Engineering from the University of Sheffield, and the BEng degree in Building Services Engineering from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Before joining the University of Plymouth, Xiaoxiong was a postdoctoral research associate at Cardiff University.
