Key features

This 20 credit degree-level module will enable you to develop your professional practice in the provision of urgent, emergency and critical care.

You will build on your experience in practice and prior professional development activities, engaging in personal development planning and focused learning activities. These are designed to develop your confidence and competence to deliver high quality, patient centred care within urgent, emergency and critical care settings.

A range of evidence supporting your development will be collated in an electronic portfolio which also makes up your coursework assessment. There will be a blended approach to delivery with some ‘face to face’ classroom days and distance learning (to include webinars). Formative assessment points will enable you to receive feedback from the teaching team and your mentor.

Course details

On successful completion of this module you will be able to:
  • demonstrate increased fluency and confidence in the holistic assessment and management of patients
  • safely operate in a complex and unpredictable context, delivering person-centred, values based care aligned to inherent standards of professional practice (and registration)
  • work effectively within a team, show initiative to lead and support (though followership) within a professional context
  • take responsibility for self-development using critical reflection and feedback to analyse and evaluate personal capability, setting criteria for improvement and professional development
  • judiciously select evidence within your e-portfolio, to reflect relevant professional competencies and evidence your progression.
Assessment
The assessment for this module is in two parts:
1. a written critical reflection
2. evidence of progression in competence.

Entry requirements

Students wishing to undertake this module as part of a professional development pathway must be: 
  • on a professional register (i.e. NMC, HCPC) and
  • practicing within urgent, emergency or critical care to have the practice experience required to achieve the learning outcomes.
