Key features

This 40 credit masters level module will enable you to manage a practice development project within your workplace, with the support of your project supervisor.

The substantive project enables the student to demonstrate their ability to manage practice development. The project provides an opportunity to apply knowledge and understanding of methodology and methods to develop an area of practice, evaluating the impact or potential impact upon the practice area. Students may undertake this project in their actual workplace, or the workplace may be a defined sphere of practice.

Course details

On successful completion of this module you will be able to:
  • critically discuss and evaluate current research evidence and related policy/guidelines to create a shared vision of practice development for an identifiable goal in your workplace
  • create and implement a practice development plan that is context specific with identifiable aims and objectives. Select and justify use of methodology and methods to measure and evaluate the practice development process at each stage
  • demonstrate evidence based outcomes from your practice development activity and critically discuss the impact and potential impact of your work for the practice area and person-centred care
  • use a reflexive approach to critically explore your role as a practitioner within the practice development process. Share your work and engage in critical discussion with fellow practice colleagues and students
  • present a logical and clearly written practice development report.

Assessment

The assessment for this module is a practice development project.

Entry requirements

To be considered for a place on the module you must:
  • be a registered practitioner working in an area of practice that will allow you to meet the module outcomes
  • for MSc Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner and all MSc Advanced Professional Practice programmes in the School of Nursing and Midwifery – have completed 140 credits in modules linked to your chosen programme, including the relevant core modules
  • for MSc Advanced Critical Care Practitioner you must have completed the corresponding PgDip programme and core module APP758.
