Setting up a recurring card payment plan to pay in instalments

I’ve received an email from the student bulletin entitled ‘Important update for students who pay their own tuition fees’. Do I need to do anything?
Yes - If you are a student at the main University (i.e., not a partner college) and pay your own tuition fee, you can provide your card details on the payment portal to pay in instalments using the portal.
Yes - If one of the following applies to you, you should not set up a Recurring Card Payment to pay in instalments. When payment is required you should therefore pay via the Immediate Card Payment option:
  • you are a student studying a professional development module or a short course
  • you are an ELCAS funded student who has a personal contribution to pay
  • you are a post graduate research student who has been charged an extension fee
No - You do not need to do anything if one of the following applies to you: 
  • you have a loan from the student loan company for your tuition fee, or other relevant funding body making payment directly to the University (to include students in receipt of US Federal Loans)
  • you have already paid your tuition fee in full
  • a sponsor is making payment for your full tuition fee and you have provided a sponsor letter
  • you wish to make payment from an overseas bank account. Please then use our international payment provider, Flywire, using the same portal

I'm a self-fee payer. Does this apply to me? 
Yes – If you don’t wish to pay your fee in full upfront, please log in to the portal, select the UK payment portal and enter the required information in order to pay in instalments. This includes your Student ID and date of birth. 
The amounts due, including the due dates, will be pre-populated in the payment portal for your convenience. Please ensure you have sufficient funds available on the relevant dates.

I have a Tuition Fee Loan from the Student Loan Company, or equivalent funding body.  Do I need to do anything?
No – provided your application has been finalised and approved, your funding will be received directly from the Student Loan Company, or equivalent funding body. You do not need to contact us to make us aware.

I’m an international student, wishing to pay from a UK account. Do I need to do anything?
Yes - please log in to the portal, select the UK payment portal and enter the required information in order to pay in instalments. This includes your Student ID and date of birth. 

I’m an international student, wishing to pay from a non-UK account. Do I need to do anything in relation to Recurring Card Payments?
No – If you wish to make payment from an overseas bank account. Please then use our international payment provider, Flywire, using the usual portal. You will need to instruct a payment each time an instalment is due.

I’m a PGT / PGR student. Do I need to do anything?
Yes - If you are a student at the main University (i.e., not a partner college) and pay your own tuition fees, you can provide your card details on the payment portal to pay in instalments.
If you are a post graduate research student who has been charged an extension fee, you need to make a payment using the Immediate Card Payment option rather than setting up a plan to pay in instalments.
Please note, payments must adhere to the published instalment criteria for your point of entry, with full repayment achieved before the final instalment deadline or your thesis submission due date, whichever is soonest.

How do I access the portal to pay in instalments?
Please log in to the portal, select the UK payment portal and enter the required information. This includes your Student ID and date of birth. 
The amounts due, including the due dates, will be pre-populated in the payment portal for your convenience. Please ensure you have sufficient funds available on the relevant dates.

I’ve already made a partial payment of my annual tuition fees. Do I still need to provide my details?
Yes - please log in to the portal, select the UK payment portal and enter the required information. This includes your Student ID and date of birth. 
Any payments made, including fee deposits for international students, will be deducted in chronological order from the instalments due, and the residual balance owed will be displayed in your instalment plan.

I want to pay in instalments, but the Recurring Card Payment option is not showing when I log into the UK payment portal, what should I do?
Please contact the studentaccountsteam@plymouth.ac.uk who will assist you further.


My bank/card details have changed. Can I amend them?
Yes - please use the 'Update card details' tab on our website. You will need your Student ID and date of birth. 


Can I use the portal to pay for accommodation?
No. Please use the accommodation portal to make payment. If you have any further questions regarding accommodation, please contact the team at uniaccommodation@plymouth.ac.uk.

I’ve received an email from epayments@plymouth.ac.uk entitled ‘Advance Notification of Payment for Student [your student ID]’. Is this legitimate?
Yes. The email is sent via our secure University payment systems and will provide confirmation of your instalment plan and the due dates and amount to be debited from your account.


I’ve received an email from epayments@plymouth.ac.uk notifying me that payment for my instalment has been unsuccessful. What do I need to do?
Our system will try to re-take payment in 5 working days from the date of instalment.
  • Please ensure you have sufficient funds available in your account to make the payment
  • Please check your bank details provided are correct and amend as necessary. Please use the 'Update card details' tab on our website. 

I’ve withdrawn or interrupted my studies. What will happen to my recurring card payment instalments?
You may still be responsible to pay a portion of your fee. Please review our withdrawal & interruption policy for details of the amount due, and ensure any payment is made. Please log in to the portal to do so.
Please then notify the studentaccountsteam@plymouth.ac.uk who will amend your instalment plan and process any applicable refunds due.


I’m struggling to understand what I need to do, and I have additional questions. Who can I contact for support?
Please contact the studentaccountsteam@plymouth.ac.uk who will be happy to assist you.
The recurring card payment instalment plan uses your debit/credit card details to take your payments. If you change your card, or receive a new card, you will need to update your details to ensure that your payment plan is successful.
You will need to enter the card holder’s email address, after which you will be sent an email containing a secure link to where you will be able to enter your new card details. Please note:
  • The University of Plymouth will never send direct links asking for you to provide your debit or credit card details. University staff are unable to update card details.
  • You should never email your debit or credit card details to anyone. If we receive any card information via email we will delete all correspondence immediately.
 

UK Payments

Pay online by credit or debit card, or set up Recurring Card Payments

Pay online anytime by credit or debit card using our online portal.
  • If you wish to pay your tuition fee in instalments, you will be contacted prior to the first instalment deadline to input your card details into our payment portal to enable payment of your fees to be taken automatically in GBP on the instalment due dates. For students enrolling in the Autumn 2023/24 enrolment, the portal will open on 30 October 2023. You will receive notification via the student bulletin once the poral is open. 
  • The amounts due, including the due dates, will be pre-populated in the payment portal for your convenience. Please ensure you have sufficient funds available on the relevant dates.
  • Please log into the portal, select the UK payment portal and enter the required information. This includes your Student ID & date of birth. On the following page select ‘Recurring Card Payment’.
  • Please note that non-payment of your tuition fee can have serious consequences on your academic progress and can include having sanctions placed on your IT & library access.
You do not need to take any action if:
  • you have a loan from the student loan company for your tuition fees, or other relevant funding body making payment directly to the University.
  • a Sponsor is making payment for your fees and you have provided a sponsored letter
  • you wish to make payment in a currency other than GBP. Please then use our international payment provider, Flywire, using the same portal.
You’ll need your Student ID to hand. Please note: for high value transactions, we strongly recommend that you contact your bank or card issuer to advise them you’re intending to process the payment of your fees. This will avoid delays or problems in your transaction being processed.

Tuition fee fraud

The Higher Education sector is seeing rising levels of fraud in relation to the payment of tuition fees. Please do not pay your tuition fee through a ‘third party facilitator’, particularly if that facilitator approaches you direct and offers a discount. A ‘third party facilitator’ could also be someone known to you, such as another student, or a former student at the same university.
You should only ever pay your fee direct to the University using our authorised payment methods.
Chinese students have been particularly targeted. The City of London Police’s Dedicated Card and Payment Crime Unit (DCPCU) has issued an information document which provides further information. It is available in English and Chinese.
