InterCity Place, the new home for the University of Plymouth’s healthcare teaching and research, has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.
The building, transformed following a £33million investment, is on the regional shortlist in the Refurbishment and Revitalisation category of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) UK Awards for 2024.
It acknowledges the state-of-the-art spaces created within the new facility, the challenges overcome in bringing the project to fruition, and the positive impact it is already having on staff, students and the wider community.
It also reflects the teamwork and collaboration – including architects Stride Treglown, main contractor Kier and a number of other regional and national partners – which led to the successful regeneration of the building.
The project to revitalise InterCity Place,
officially opened by Angela Rippon CBE in November 2023 , has breathed new life into one of Plymouth’s most iconic buildings.
Now home to the University’s
School of Nursing and Midwifery and
School of Health Professions , it has created a series of clinical suites and laboratories that are training and developing the next generation of nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, optometrists and social workers.
It also furthers the University’s commitment to sustainability, which in 2023 saw it become only the second university in the UK to secure carbon neutral status.
